BLEPHAROPLASTY
A clear look is an essential part of one’s emotional expression. Sagging eyelids on the other hand, leave the eye looking small and tired.
By removing sagging skin and excessive fat tissue from the upper eyelids, the eyes receive a younger and fresher appearance. They appear more open and larger, and the tired look disappears.

THE PROCEDURE
Blepharoplasty
One of the most common and noticeable signs of ageing is loose and saggy eyelid skin. On the upper eyelid, excess skin might even lead to impairment of vision. It can create the impression of a small and sad looking eye. The main reason for “drooping eyelids” is a real excess of eyelid skin or a descending of the forehead tissue and eyebrows, pushing the skin of the upper eyelid downward.
In most cases the correction of loose eyelid skin is performed under local anaesthetics:
On the upper eyelid (upper blepharoplasty) the cut is made in the natural creases of the eyelid. In most cases underlying muscle is tightened and excessive fat is removed.

Do I have to stay in hospital, what form of anaesthetics is used?
For an upper blepharoplasty we normally use local anaesthetics. However many patients prefer to be asleep during the operation. You dont have to stay in hospital, eyelid corrections are usually outpatient procedures..
When will I be back to normal?
• Bruising and most of the swelling will be gone after 1 week.
• You should not do any physical exercises for 3 weeks (like jogging, aerobic..)
• You can be back to work 3 – 5 days after the operation
How long does the operation take ?
An upper blepharoplasty takes between 1,5 – 2 hours

How do I have to prepare for the operation?
No Aspirin or drugs that influence the clotting system

Do I have a lot of pain afterwards?
There is usually no or just little pain following eyelid – surgery (such as an upper- blepharoplasty).
What are the potential risks and complications?
You will have bruising and swelling that goes mostly down 7 – 10 days after the upper- blepharoplasty. Major complications after upper eyelid surgery are seldom.

Important informations for the time after the operation
• sleep only on your back (that should be slightly raised)
• don`t touch or remove the dressing
• take 3 – 5 days off work
• no sports or heavy physical work for 4 weeks, use a sun blocker- cream to protect the scars for 6 months.
